520 _aThis work consists of a unique combina- tion of writings of research and general types meant both for scholars and general readers. It covers a wide range of topics in the field of Indo-Portuguese history. Well documented comments are made on Portuguese relations with the rulers of India like the emperors of Vijayanagara, the Adil Shahis of Bijapur, Shivaji the Maratha hero, Hyder Ali of Mysore, the Nayakas of Keladi (Ikkeri), and Tulaji Angria of Kolaba. Similarly, Portuguese relations with their European rivals in India, namely, the Dutch, the English and the French are discussed. The com- mercial and missionary activities of the Portuguese are dealt with in two separate articles. The problems and prospects in- volved in the study of Indo-Portuguese history are assessed at one place. Some primary sources in Portuguese and their authors or compilers are evaluated at another place. So also, the contribution of a great Goan historian, namely, the late Panduranga S. S. Pissurlencar, to the historiography of Indo-Portuguese history is highlighted in one article.
