randomly sampled survey of over 350 Tibetan nuns A living in exile, this volume fills a gap in our knowledge of the current status of Tibetan women. Exploring a range of issues, from the state of education within nunneries to the female monastic experience in both Tibet and in exile, to the monastic-oriented understanding of gender issues and discrimination, this volume provides a lucid view into the realities of life for Tibetan nuns today. Primary research is complemented here by TWA's own interpretations, recommendations for continued research, and policy prescriptions. What follows is a cogent addition to the oft-neglected study of women within the monastic community.
